Hello and welcome to Inkspell Publishing.  We know that the readers are looking forward to learning more about you.  Please tell us a little about yourself.
Hello! Its so great to be here.

My name is Mikael Lemieux and I write Romance and Inspirational Fiction novellas. I grew up in small town in Northern Ontario and attended the Royal Military College of Canada where I got my degree in Space Science with a double minor in history and physics. I currently reside in Petawawa Ontario, with my wife Danielle and my dog Loki, where I work for the Canadian Armed Forces as an Electrical Mechanical Engineer. My friends call me Mik and I try to get out fishing, hunting and curling in Northern Ontario at every opportunity.

Now onto some fun questions! If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why?
A very big question indeed, there are so many terrible things in the world, Poverty, Crime, Racism, terrorism, illness and so much more. But if I could change one thing and only one thing about the world, it would be to ensure that everyone would find love. Whether it be in another, in themselves, in family and friends or in some other way, every person would know the feeling of true love.

If you knew the exact date of your death down to the minute, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow?
Absolutely nothing, I love my life, I have a beautiful family which I cherish and a career that I love. I feel fulfilled, loved and happy.
I wouldn’t change a thing.

When was the last time you felt alive? We mean really alive!
My wife and I have recently found out that she is pregnant with our first child. This was the most exciting news I had ever heard. Filled with excitement, I have never felt more alive then now, as we wait in anticipation the arrival our first child.

When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful?
Every year my family gets together and we volunteer at a local organization in need. This year we volunteered at the local food bank supporting those in our community. We filled bags of food, delivered them as required and assisted with miscellaneous duties. The organization and its customers were appreciative for our support.

What television sitcom is most like your family? Why?
The sitcom which believe is most like my family is Diff’rent Strokes, an American sitcom from the early 80’s. Similar to the children in the sitcom, my siblings and I were all adopted into a French Christian family. In a town filled with either aboriginal or white christian citizens, my siblings born in El Salvador and I often got into very colorful misadventures throughout out everyday life resembling the TV sitcom Diff’rent Strokes.

What’s your favorite thing to do to relax?
I like to spend my time relaxing either next to a campfire or on a lake fishing, taking in nature and spending time with family.

Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author?
No, actually in high school I really didn’t enjoy language courses. It wasn’t until University that I began to appreciate literature. As I often struggled in my writing, it seemed like the perfect act of romance for my wife. I worked hard and wrote three novellas as a gift for my wife. In the process I developed an affinity for the written word and haven’t looked back since.

What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult?
The authors which had the biggest impact on me growing up were J.K. Rowling and Cornelia Funke. Their enchanting books full of wonder allowed for an escape from the world and encouraged my creativity.

Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing?
A laptop, water, notepad, pen, country music and lots of snacks!

What have you learned the most from being in the writing business?
To be a successful author in this modern information age you can’t only be an author. You must take all opportunities to become marketer, business owner and salesperson all in one in order to succeed. An expert in the writing business is far from exclusively a writer.

Title: Promise Keeper
Blurb:
After fulfilling his final promise to his late wife, a widower finds himself at the edge of a bridge and jumps. He survives and is rescued by a homeless man named Houser, who lives under the bridge. Slowly he recovers from his fall in the company of the homeless. Having tossed his wallet, phone, and watch off the bridge, he becomes a persona non grata. He finds peace in a new life without a home or connections to his life before.

As soon as he is well enough, Houser takes Frank to a soup kitchen run by the kind but intimidating Sadie. Owing Houser for saving his life, Frank at first helps by volunteering at the kitchen, but later realizes he can help Sadie with his own expertise. Sadie reveals she’s being audited by the CRA. He becomes determined to help her pass the hostile audit. He finds that he has a surprising connection to Sadie and her soup kitchen. Frank cannot escape his old life as David forever.

With the threat of the CRA audit looming and pain of his past creeping back into his life, Frank will soon have to take another less dangerous but more difficult leap.

Excerpt:
I was at the brіdgе when mу рhоnе rang. I didn't rесоgnіzе thе numbеr, ѕо I hіt іgnоrе. I walked along thе wаlkwау, lооkіng at the ѕіlеntlу-lullіng river. Cаrѕ раѕѕеd, their оссuраntѕ oblivious to the death of mу wіfе.

Thе whole wоrld was oblivious. My рhоnе rаng again - another numbеr I dіdn't rесоgnіzе. I іgnоrеd іt as well and stopped at thе apex of thе brіdgе.

I closed mу еуеѕ аѕ I lеаnеd оn the rаіl. I соuld see Amber again, ѕо сhееrful. I wоuld bеgіn to forget ѕооn. I can't ѕее my раrеntѕ' fасеѕ аnу mоrе. I didn't wаnt to lоѕе Amber again. I knеw it wаѕ grіеf, but that wаѕ аll I hаd оf her. I nеvеr wаntеd thе grіеf tо end. My phone rаng again аnd I dіdn't even look at it. I рullеd іt оut оf mу росkеt and drорреd it іntо the rіvеr.

It wаѕ jоуоuѕ tо let іt gо. I lаughеd аt thе thоught of іt, thrоwіng аwау thе wоrld аnd аll its uѕеlеѕѕ mасhіnаtіоnѕ. Mу watch fоllоwеd and I wrарреd mуѕеlf іn a сlоаk оf mу mеmоrіеѕ. I рullеd my wallet out and lооkеd аt it closely. It was mу соnnесtіоn tо the wоrld. Mу drіvеr’s license, сrеdіt cards, and the еmрlоуее badge I ѕhоuld hаvе turnеd in whеn I had quit. I opened the billfold аnd saw аn оld lоttеrу tісkеt аnd a couple hundrеd dоllаrѕ. Nоnе of it hаd meaning. I had kept mу рrоmіѕе and everything еlѕе was moot. I threw thе wаllеt fаrthеr. Mу kеуѕ wеrе heavier, they wеnt the farthest.

I wаlkеd to the еаѕt end оf the brіdgе, whеrе thе river lарреd up next to thе rосkѕ fаr below. I wаѕ nо lоngеr cold, оr саrеd if I was. I сlіmbеd over thе rаіlіng аnd аlіgnеd myself wіth thе rосkѕ that thе wаtеr was kіѕѕіng bеlоw. I сlоѕеd my eyes аnd thеrе was Amber again, in аll hеr perfection. Every freckle, every dіmрlе, hеr аrmѕ outstretched аnd inviting. I dіdn't jumр, I juѕt leaned into hеr arms. I ѕаw thе mоѕt precious еxрrеѕѕіоn, thе ѕаmе one I wоuld see as we made lоvе. I folded іntо her аѕ I fell away from thе wоrld. I had kерt mу рrоmіѕе.

How did you decide on your story plot?
Following the community work I had done with my family I saw the harsh realities of poverty in Canada. I was touched and decided that I had to write about it.

How did you choose your characters names and location for your story?
The location of the story remain ambiguous, as poverty is frequent in all areas on the country I thought it important for readers to be able to picture the story in their respective geographic region. The character names were inspired from my everyday life.

Do you have a favorite scene? Why?
There is a scene where the main character meets a homeless man who he soon befriends. In that moment the main characters ideas of homelessness and poverty are shattered as he learns of a new way of life.

This scene represent the realization I hope my book brings to all readers of the state of poverty in the world.

Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why?
I Identify with the protagonist of the story. I took several real life experiences and inserted them into the character. Leaving his development particularly close to my heart.
