Phyllis Cherry
Hello and welcome. We are so excited to have you here today. We know that the readers are looking forward to learning more about you. Please tell us a little about yourself.
I’m Phyllis Cherry, and am thrilled to be a new InkSpell author. I write about things happening in my fantasy world and sometimes unwind by painting watercolor pictures. I’m a traveler and an avid cooking school student.
Now onto some fun questions! If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why?Remember the things we learned in kindergarten? Good manners, being kind to one another, respecting each other’s space and obeying the “Golden Rule” were the basic lessons of my childhood. I wish we would all remember these lessons.
If you knew the exact date of your death down to the minute, what would you change about your life starting tomorrow?
I can’t change what has happened. I would like to spend my last hours with my husband and the people I love.
When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive!
Yesterday. I learned something new about a topic I am interested in.
When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful?
My husband and I helped a friend pay a hospital charge so they could buy prescription medicine. She was very grateful. I often pray for and keep in touch with friends who need to know someone cares. If they reach the goal of good health, family resolutions or project completions we rejoice together.
What television sitcom is most like your family? Why?
I can’t think of a sitcom that sounds like my family. We probably relate to the happenings on “Big Bang” most as we have all had experiences with people like these characters.
What’s your favorite thing to do to relax?
Read a good book, do a crossword puzzle or sketch.
Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author.
I like to write about possibilities, fantasy places and characters who insist on being heard. I write for a young audience and do not use profanity or erotic scenes. My new favorite characters are children who left this world to begin life in angel communities. Each character has a story and insist on telling me all about it when I least expect his or her visit.
Did you always want to be an author?
As a child, I loved reading all the fairy tale books like the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson, and retelling the stories to my schoolmates and friends. I read constantly, but didn’t pursue writing in college. I didn’t attempt to publish anything other than magazine and newspaper articles about food, travel and wine until recently.
What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult?
I loved all the mystery books like Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys but the first serious books were the ones by Ayn Rand starting with The Fountainhead and following through with the rest of them.
Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing?
Good lighting, a place for scribbling ideas and sometimes a cup of coffee.
What have you learned the most from being in the writing business?
How difficult it is to do the Social media necessary to promote sales. I love writing, revising, getting to know my characters and putting the whole thing together. It would be a wonderful thing to just write and avoid social media altogether.

Tell us about your latest release:
White Feathers Academy is a story of children who did not live long on earth and are resurrected to live in angel villages and attend schools where they find their own talents.
Halo Havens arrives at White Feathers Academy at the age of twelve for her final year of training before joining one of the angel communities. The students spend their final year perfecting their talents to present to the angels on Birth Day. Halo didn’t know angels have different talents and she isn’t sure she has a talent at all. When she and Jet, her deaf-mute friend are assigned to study with grouchy Dr. Leaf, who has never accepted an intern at his animal hospital, she is convinced she has no talent.
Annie is a talented music student determined to steal the talents of others for her own use. Her attempts to hurt Halo’s friends nearly cost Halo her life. Midas, a big golden dog Halo rescued, and her friend Jet, the android Koze and Dr. Leaf enter forbidden territory to find Halo before she loses her second chance for life.
How did you decide on your story plot?
We were studying the Bible verses about a proprietor giving each of three employees a talent to take care of while he traveled and how two of them multiplied their talents. So, my overactive imagination came up with the idea of children finding talents and multiplying them.
How did you choose your characters names and location for your story?
I loved little Halo from the beginning, and she, Zadie and her deaf-mute brother Jet were the original characters. The triplets, Star, Opal and Ruby just decided to show up one day and stayed for the rest of the story. The beautiful guardian angel Asia has been around for a long time and Midas is a much beloved golden in my own family.
Do you have a favorite scene? Why?
The scene when the triplets and Zadie spend the night together while Jet and Koze are searching for Halo. Their idea of asking their guardian angels to help their friend had me crying right along with them.
Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why?
Halo, of course, because she is really trying to find a talent and is worried that she doesn’t have one. I can relate to talent seeking.

I am busy writing the sequel to White Feathers Academy, which takes place at a summer camp in Florida. Halo and Midas must help at least one person, regardless of personal risk, including life. I hope you will love my new friends at Camp Esther and the mysterious stranger who intends to prevent Halo from accomplishing her goal.
