Now onto some fun questions!
If you could change one thing about our world, what would it be and why?
- I wish there was more kindness and compassion. Since the pandemic started, we aren’t giving each other grace like we used to. We’re going to make mistakes, and that’s okay as long as we’re still kind. Life is too short not be nice to those in your life.
- Yikes, what a question! I’d make more time for family, friends, and the hobbies I love. If we’re talking short term, I would definitely have two desserts and that extra glass of wine with dinner. 😉
When was the last time you felt alive? I mean really alive!
- Summer of 2021 when my husband and I went parasailing. It was such a rush! I loved the feeling of the wind in my hair and dangling hundreds of feet over the water. The weightlessness felt like we were flying; absolutely the best sensation.
When was the last time you helped someone that was desperately in need? What did you do? Was this person grateful?
- I used to be a public librarian, and there were countless times when I helped folks with anything from simple book inquires to more complex requests like social services. It was very rewarding to have the opportunity to interact with my community and give back like that. In most cases the person left with what they needed, or at least a direction of where to turn. I’m very grateful for my experiences in public libraries. They are the cornerstones of every community and deserve our patronage.
What television sitcom is most like your family? Why?
- Ha! I love this question. While we’re not like the Tanners, the first show that came to mind was the original Full House. I remember watching it on TGIF with my sister when we were kids, and it’s still one of my favorite shows from childhood. I have fond memories of my family watching their fictional family.
What’s your favorite thing to do to relax?
- As cliché as it sounds, I love to read. Books have always been a comfort to me, especially romance books. You can’t beat a guaranteed HEA! And I enjoy books in any format—from print to audio. Nothing beats baking while listening to a great romance.
- If I’m looking to comfort watch a TV show, it must be The Golden Girls. Give me 5 minutes of Bea Arthur, and I’m a happier person. 😊
Let’s find out a little bit about you as an author. Did you always want to be an author?
- Yes! I remember in elementary school drawing little story books to read to my parents. I definitely love playing the role of storyteller and giving characters a voice. As I grew older, I still drafted short stories here and there. I didn’t start writing novel-length stories until about ten years ago. I always knew the genre would be romance, or maybe women’s fiction. It’s the bulk of what I read, and I like to go with what I know and love.
What authors had an impact on you growing up and as an adult?
- Growing up I read a lot of the early American Girl books. (Kirsten and Samantha were my favorites!) I also read Peggy Parish’s Amelia Bedelia series about a thousand times. I enjoyed having a series that always made me laugh. As I entered my tween years, I remember sneaking a peek at my Nana’s old Harlequin books. Those were my gateway drug to the romance genre. 😉
- As an adult, the books of Jane Green and Mariam Keyes got me into the world of “chick lit” in the early 2000s. Their books featured everyday women living their lives, making mistakes, and falling in love along the way. You can’t beat that! These days I adore Tessa Bailey, Helena Hunting, Emily Henry, and Meghan Quinn—just to name a few.
Do you have any “must haves” with you while you’re writing?
- Yes, caffeine! Whether it’s tea or a latte I always need a little boost when I’m at my computer. In terms of writing tools, I always have a copy of Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes nearby. Her beat sheets keep me focused on the story’s progression since I’m more of a “pantser” writer and don’t have rigid outlines.
What have you learned the most from being in the writing business?
- We’re all insecure about our writing! The more writers I talk to—even the super successful ones—all have stories of imposter syndrome or fear of failing. For the longest time I thought I was the only one who feared they were not good enough. It was so freeing to learn I was not alone.

How did you decide on your story plot?
- Snow in Love started as an idea when I watched the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and Paralympics with my husband. We were obsessed! We watched all the events, interviews, and training stories we could find. I loved the idea of athletes falling in love while training. I’m a total sap!
- Falling Home, and the idea for the Buckeye Falls series, came from my time living in Ohio and Indiana. While we live downtown, I often go to the small towns outside the beltway for shopping and general exploration. I’m always charmed by the atmosphere and the people, and the idea of Buckeye Falls grew from there. I wanted to create a cozy town where people fall in love.
How did you choose your characters names and location for your story?
- I keep a list of names that I’ve liked over the years. For nearly all my main characters, I avoid names of people I know. When I picked each name for the main characters, I think about them and see how their names sound together. It’s hardly scientific, but it works for me.
Do you have a favorite scene? Why?
- Grand gestures—all the way! It’s my favorite part of every romance book I write or read. I love a happily ever after, the swoonier the better. 😉
Do you have a character that you identify with? Who and why?
- This is a tough one. While I’m sure I could find similarities with all my characters, there isn’t one that I identify with the most. If I had to choose, I’d probably pick Ginny from Falling Home. She has these unlikeable moments while she’s finding herself and working on her career, and I definitely relate to that drive to succeed. Plus, she loves her cinnamon roll husband. I can certainly relate to that notion. 😊

- I guess the only other thing I’d want to mention is that I love writing books for readers to escape in. There won’t be anything too heavy or too intense—my stories are meant to be brain candy for the reader. Life is complicated enough, so why not read something sweet when you have the time? 😉
