Wednesday Writer's Spotlight: The Olympics

8/1/2012

The Olympics are on everyone's minds these days as we started our weekend with the grand opening ceremony.  The Queen was quite fun as a Bond Girl! And everyone is tweeting about the sexy bodies of the athletes.

With the Olympics happening every four years, the magesty of the opening ceremony and the tight competitions between countries is perfect for a romance novel.  We thought we ask some of our Inkspell authors about what their favorite Olympic event was and why.  See what they said and see if you agree with them.

Aubrie Dionne:
My favorite Olympic Sport is Ice Skating- Winter Olympics. I love the creative artistry, the gracefulness, the glittery outfits, and the music. Pairs is my favorite- so romantic looking-, but I also enjoy watching the women compete. I remember the year Oksana Baiul won. She's my all time favorite skater.

Brooke Moss:
My favorite sport is gymnastics. Not the fancy-pants gymnastics with the ribbons and balls, but the standard kind--with the tough little girls who wear a thousand barrettes in their hear and they tumble like rockets. It's amazing to watch. I can't get enough of it! Plus, it helps that they always wear the most asinine leotards, that makes for some fun conversation. :)

Lisa Voisin:
I live in Vancouver, Canada, the host city of the Winter 2010 games. It was such an exciting time to live in this city that it changed my view of the Olympics forever. I liked them before, but I love them now. So, of course, my favorite sports to watch were the men's freestyle skiing, where Alex Bilodeau won Canada's first gold medal on Canadian soil. I also enjoyed the men's hockey tremendously. It was the biggest party I'd ever seen.

As for the Summer Olympic sports, it's a hard choice, because all the athletes are so impressive. I'm going to be glued to my TV all week. I'd have to say I'm pretty excited about the gymnastics so far, because of the strength and grace of the athletes. I'll also be watching the men's swimming to see how Michael Phelps does. I hope he breaks the record.

Kristy Centeno:
My favorite olympic sport (if I did any sports at all) would be swimming. I love to swim and actually enjoy being in the water so this would actually be a treat for me. If I had the oppotunity to compete in every swimming competition, I would give it my best because even if I don't win, at least I would have fun participating.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stephanie Keyes:
In the summer games, my favorite Olympic sport is probably diving. I’m terrified of heights; they are not my thing at all. The divers that you see on the television screen seem fearless to me. If I were the one diving off of the podium I would be screaming and flailing my arms about like the generally uncoordinated person that I am.
The divers, however, not only do not scream and flail about, but they manage to execute incredible series of twists and turns, all within the several seconds that it takes them to reach the water. That takes guts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our authors are a diverse group of people which makes our stories so wonderful. Each of them have different events that they enjoy!  What is your favorite sport of the Olympics? What athletes are you watching and cheering for? Are you glued to the television like so many of the world?  We'd love to hear your thoughts!
