Wednesday Writer's Spotlight: Football Frenzy

9/5/2012

Fall is the time for back to school, falling leaves, cooler temperatures and football!  We asked the Inkspell authors about their favorite teams, a funny story or why they loved football. This question was a challenge because most of our authors are not big football fans. Let's not forget that American football is  not the only football out there! But we did get some interesting responses!  One, two, three, hike!

Well as an English author my football season is different to the normal American football season. I am an avid soccer fan, as you would put it. I am a born and bred Arsenal supporter. My dad has supported them as a kid and by default so do I, even though they haven't won any trophies in a LONG time. Most of my friends support rival teams like Manchester United or Chelsea and they never fail to throw it in my face when Arsenal lose. It's fun though it keeps it all interesting because if we all supported the same team and wore the same shirts it's wouldn't have the same effect. To be honest I quite like supporting Arsenal because even though they start out bad at the beginning of the season they make it to the top 4 by the end.

It's quite funny though being a woman many people don't believe I am an avid football supporter and they call me an "armchair supporter" but when I turn up in the shirts and can name players on my team, first and last names, it puts them all in their place. Haha!

My favorite football team is definitely the New York Giants. Not only do they currently have their summer training camp right in Albany, NY (basically in my back yard), I was literally raised on Giants football.

When we were little, if any of the four of us "Brennan children" wanted attention from either of our parents after church on Sunday, it requires a thorough knowledge of the game of football - more specifically Giants football. I figured this out somewhere around are twelve. One boring Sunday afternoon, I decided I had been ignored enough, so I sat down between my parents on the couch, and proceeded to beg my father to teach me the rules of football. he was only too happy to oblige.

Later in life, I was one of the few girls a guy could date who might actually know more of the rules of the game than they did. Some boyfriends loved that, others, not so much.

Either way, I learned at a young age to love the game, and being my family was a Giants family -- they were a shoe in to be my favorite team. Of course, winning the Super Bowl last year certainly doesn't hurt.

Actually, I hate sports, especially football season. But my husband loves it, as do my kids...so I get an extra lot of writing time in whenever their favorite college team, BYU, plays!

Now you can tell us what your favorite football team (college or professional/American or World) is and why. But we think we can all agree...whether you are a football fan or not, we love that our authors love writing.  And who knows maybe some wonderful characters will come out of the game of football!
