Second chances, we've all given them. We went back to that restaurant that mixed up our order. We've brushed off a comment that stung in order to remain friends. But have you ever given a guy a second chance? I bet we all have. My second chance came about before my husband was my husband. At the time, he was simply a parent I was emailing. He would tick me off with sassy comments about my newsletter each week. I was frustrated because I was doing more than the other teachers were doing and it felt like he didn't appreciate it. Each week, I continued to email him... mostly because I felt very strongly about it being his right. I'm glad I did because after his son left my class, he asked me out and the rest is romance history.
I love how author L.E. Wagensveld wove second chances into her latest book- BREAKING PAST. The characters of River and James both need to be given a second chance. Once James figures out that sparks fly between them, he fights against the second chance because he feels like he doesn't deserve it. But he's willing to give a second chance to anyone, including a sweet dog, so maybe...just maybe, he will deserve his own second chance. BREAKING PAST is now available for preorder and will release on Aug. 22nd. You'll want to catch up with the whole Stevenson Family before then!
River James tried to leave Cascade Creek more than once. Now she’s resigned herself to a life in the town where she grew up, and she’s happy, even if, sometimes, it feels as though something is missing.
When she meets Jake Maclean, it’s clear the man has his burdens, yet she can’t stop thinking about him. His shyness, talent, and kind heart endure Jake to River faster than she would have liked. She’s open to a future with Cascade Creek’s handsome interloper, but Jake is much more resistant. The question is, can she make him see, that he, and his future, are worth fighting for? Or will Jake successfully drown their chances of love in his past pain?
Jake Maclean loves his family. So, he knows they’re better off without him. When Jake moves to Cascade Creek to escape his past and the pain he’s caused, he isn’t looking for a new beginning. Living in the tiny town is supposed to be his penance, not a second chance.
It takes a feisty woman with eyes who look into his soul, a three-legged dog, and the unflagging support of his sister Carmen to help Jake shed the pain of his past. Will he be able to embrace his new life, and a chance at love? Or will the struggles of his past get the better of him, again?
There’s no better healer than love!
Breaking Past, the third book in the Stevenson Family stories, steals the reader’s heart with a sweet story about love and redemption. Jake holds his guilt close to his heart like a shield and River is the one woman who can rip that protection away. It can be read as a standalone but by reading all the books, you’ll find a deeper connection with the characters. Fans of Book Lovers by Emily Henry and Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez will enjoy the heartwarming tale of Breaking Past.
