The first mystery that I read was Nancy Drew. Her adventures were exciting and kept me guessing until the very end. Today, I love to watch shows like CSI or Criminal Minds where I can dig deeper into the minds of the killers. Anne Grace Roberts has a wonderful series which is perfect for teens or the young at heart. Lily Deene is an ordinary teen who visits her mother in England and comes face to face with ghosts. Each story has her solving the mystery of the ghost's demise, sometimes with the help of her friends. UPROOTED is the third book in the Lily Deene series. Like the others, it features a ghost but this time the ghost helps Lily! She's been taken and is alone. Through a series of flashbacks we see a dual story of the ghost's life and Lily's predicament. The story keeps you guessing right up to the end as we finally find out what happened to Lily and why. Blurb: The tangled roots of love and betrayal…. A collision of the past and present. One will find love, the other betrayal. The last thing Lily Deene remembers is texting her boyfriend, Simon before going to bed. She awakes in the dark and cold with no idea where she is. With air running out, Lily’s in danger of becoming a ghost herself. Nazi prison guard Heinrich Richter decides to leave a war he no longer supports. He undertakes a perilous journey to England and finds something precious he feels he doesn’t deserve. Lily and Heinrich will meet in London where they will find that betrayal and love have deep roots. EXCERPT: I inhaled deeply, fighting against the nausea, headache, and fear. How did I get here?” I tried again, my voice catching. “I was in my room. I was sleeping. I don’t understand. I want to know where I am. How did I get here?” “You are American.” He sounded surprised. “How did I get here?” I asked. “Who are you? Why am I here?” I repeated. “I don’t understand what is happening to me!” “A man brought you here.” “A man? Who? Why?” “I do not know.” “Please, tell me what is going on? I don’t understand what’s happening to me!” “I know you are afraid, but you must be strong.” He spoke quietly but with a calm assurance. “Who are you?” Panic was bubbling up inside of me. “Please tell me what is happening to me. Please!” Tears squeezed from my eyes. Shhh,” he soothed softly. “You must be quiet now. He is coming.” My throat closed. “Who?” I creaked. “One man. He comes.” I broke out in a cold prickling sweat, my heart pounding once again in terrified anticipation. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. I sat shaking and holding my breath as I listened and waited, the sound of my own panicked breathing echoing loudly in my ears. I heard the faint sound of footsteps from somewhere in the dark. They stopped. There was a thud, as if something heavy had been dropped on the floor, then the sound of a lock clicking open. A shaft of light cut through the darkness like a knife, and a man appeared. Grab a copy today! |
