EXCERPT:
Lola was curled up in bed, a pillow waiting for him. The TV was on low, a rerun of Martha Stewart playing. When Lola caught him watching, she chuckled. “We can find something else to watch, but anytime I see Martha, I can’t help myself.”


Javi closed the distance in two long strides, sliding under the covers and pulling her flush against him. Gently, he kissed her temple. “No, leave it on.”

​Lola was incredulous. “Really?”


“Really.” Tears stung his eyes. “I used to watch this with my mamá. It’s very …” Emotion clogged his throat, stealing his explanation.


Fortunately with Lola, he didn’t need words. She pulled the blanket tighter and nestled back into his arms, keeping her head down so he could see the screen. “Martha is universal,” she muttered, voice coated with sleep. 


Javi kept his arm wrapped around her middle, his body tense to stop himself from blubbering. The show played on, the fatigue of the day catching up to Lola as she drifted off to sleep. This was everything, right here in this hotel room. This was more than sex and a good time … they’d just made love.
